Lisa Cimino – from YMCA to speak about YMCA programs and collaborative opportunities Liz Roeder – Arizona Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (ACESDV) Unscheduled Public Appearances Mark Whitaker – Exchange Club of Chandler came to speak about the Field of Hope event Sunday April 13th – Friday April 18th. The dedication ceremony is April 13th 6-7pm at Dr. J. Chandler Park West. Action Agenda and Discussion 2. Motion to approve DV Commission Minutes of February 12, 2025 Motion: Commissioner Brizel Seconded: Commissioner Perez Unanimous approval, 6-0 3. Motion to approve DV Vice Chair Codkind to write Op-ed for the City of Importance of Connections, Resources, Healthy Relationships, barriers survivors are experiencing in the community. Motion: Vice Chair Curtis Seconded: Commissioner Brizel Unanimous approval, 6-0 Discussion 4. Domestic Violence Commission – Recap of healthy relationship activity held with Boys & Girls Club on February 12th went over very well would like to make this a regular activity. Boys & Girls Club invited DV Commission to return in the summer when they have about 40 teens. 5. International Mother Language Day Celebration 2025 on Saturday February 22, 2025 at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler. Recap of the event . Tabled to next meeting. 6. Field of Hope Event – Sunday, April 13, 2025 Raising awareness of Child Abuse by standing up a flag for each children’s lives that were lost for 2023. Commissioner Tipton has volunteered to speak at the event. 7. Domestic Violence Awareness Event 2025- Sept. 23, 2025 at Avion Center in Chandler Topic – Technology use, abuse and empowerment to safeguard, technology experts, share trainings available. Professional speaker Alex Palacios from ACESDV has agreed to be our speaker. He will be invited to a future meeting. Commissioner Perez is looking into the training and will help be the advisor with ACESDV for this event. Continue to discuss next meeting. 8. Domestic Violence Community Outreach Subcommittee – Updates for Teen Healthy Relationship activities: CUSD is not responding to emails. Katie has sent emails to Kyrene and to Arizona College Prep in Chandler social worker. Member Comments/Announcements Two Proclamations were submitted to council to be read at the City Council meeting on April 7 at 6pm council Child abuse awareness will have Mark Whitaker join to promote the Field of Hope event in April. The second is the Intimate Partner Sexual Assault Awareness proclamation. Bridging The Gap on the importance of connections, resources and healthy relationships Vice Mayor Ellis has agreed to attend our meeting in May. Calendar Next Regular Domestic Violence Committee meeting on April 9, 2025 at 9:00 a.m. City Council Chambers Conference Room. Next Community Outreach Subcommittee meeting on March 12, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. City Council Chamers Conference Room.
