Meeting Minutes Mayor’s Youth Commission Regular Meeting March 4, 2025, 5:00 p.m. ASU Chandler Innovation Center Room 102, 249 E. Unscheduled Public Appearances None. Action Agenda 1. Approval of Minutes Approval of the February 11, 2025 Mayor’s Youth Commission minutes. Action Agenda Motion and Vote COMMISSIONER Makenzie Cole moved to approve the February 11, 2025 Mayor’s Youth Commission meeting minutes. Seconded by COMMISSIONER Sanjana Balaji. Motion carried unanimously (16-0-3). Discussion 2. Mayor's Youth Commission Applications Chair Singhania reminded commissioners that applications remain open through the end of March and encouraged them to continue recruiting individuals who may be interested in this leadership opportunity. 3. Election Reminder - April Meeting Chair Singhania announced that elections for the Mayor’s Youth Commission board will take place at the next meeting in April. Commissioners interested in running must be present and on time to participate and vote. Each candidate will have two minutes to present their speech before a commission-wide vote determines the new board, which will assume its role in August. 4. Event Debrief: State of the City Attendance Commissioners reflected on their experience at the State of the City event. Commissioners who attended agreed that it was an excellent opportunity to learn about the Mayor’s goals for the upcoming year, engage with city officials, and network with other attendees. 5. Event Debrief: Chandler Innovation Fair Page 2 of 3 Jaden says great experience, opportunity to look and judge different projects from middle school and high school. Projects were judged based off rubric and it was a really fun experience. Judges got to see different types of science applied in real world contexts and different demonstrations. 6. Volunteer Opportunity: For Our City Day (March 29, 2025, 6:30am - 12:00pm, Pamela Park Neighborhood) Alexis Apodaca introduced this volunteer opportunity, noting that sign-ups are now closed. Commissioners will be assisting in home renovation projects, including painting and beautification efforts, and will work alongside the Mayor, City Council, and a large team to complete the projects within a single day. 7. Volunteer Opportunity: Chandler Family Bike Ride (April 5, 2025, 6:15am - 9:45am, Chandler Park and Ride) Alexis Apodaca reminded commissioners that this will be the last volunteer opportunity of the year. The annual event supports the city’s transportation policy initiatives. Volunteers will assist with various tasks, including setting up vendor tables, managing check-in, monitoring activity and bike decorating stations, and assisting with event cleanup. 8. Teen Leadership Academy Planning Commissioners conducted a full rehearsal for the Teen Leadership Academy. Each commissioner responsible for a specific event within the program presented their section as if it were the official event. Adjustments were made to refine the schedule, ensure smooth transitions, and improve the overall structure of the day. Member Comments/Announcements None.
