Meeting Minutes Chandler Museum Foundation Regular Meeting April 21, 2025| 5:30 p.m. Chandler Museum, Saguaro Room 300 S. Chandler Village Drive, Chandler, AZ Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Barbara Meyerson at 5:30 p.m. Roll Call Board Member Attendance Staff Attendance Barbara Meyerson, Chair Kim Moyers, Cultural Development Director Joan Clark, Vice-Chair Jody Crago, Museum Manager Rich Feely, Treasurer Peter Bugg, Museum Operations Manager Calvenea Malloy Tom Escobedo Mary Cimaglio Gregory Herriman Jacki Ryan Martin Sepulveda Joshua Askey Absent Brenda Abney Unscheduled Public Appearances None. Consent Agenda 1. Approval of Minutes from March 17, 2025 Chandler Museum Foundation Board Meeting. • Calvenea Malloy made a motion to approve minutes from the March 17, 2025 Chandler Museum Foundation Board Meeting • Gregory Herriman seconded the motion. Page 2 of 5 • Motion carried unanimously (10-0). The minutes were approved as presented. Action Agenda 2. Recommend Museum Foundation Assume Operation of the Vision Gallery Store • Martin Sepulveda made a motion to recommend Museum Foundation assume operation of the Vision Gallery Store • Tom Escobedo seconded the motion. • Jody Crago explained how the Vision Gallery Store was formerly run by the Cultural Foundation. With the reorganization of the Museum Division of the City of Chandler, the Museum was initially going to take on the Vision Gallery Store but realized it would be impractical. The proposal is for the Chandler Museum Foundation to have purview over the Vision Gallery Store like it currently has over the Chandler Museum Store. If approved, the Cultural Foundation wants to transfer ownership with the start of the 25-26 fiscal year. • Board members asked questions about the proposed process of taking on the Vision Gallery Store, the current valuation of the Vision Gallery Store, and the profitability of the Vision Gallery Store. • Motion carried unanimously (10-0). The recommendation was approved as presented. Discussion 3. Interest in Serving as a Board Officer • Joan Clark presented the request for Board Members to express any interest they may have in serving as a Board Officer • Interested Board Members will be presented to the Governance Subcommittee on May 12th and voted on at the June Board Meeting 4. Update on Fall Fundraising Initiative • House of Broadcasting o Jody Crago informed the Board that the House of Broadcasting pulled back from the exhibit due to lack of objects to present o The exhibit may be run in the future, but is currently indefinitely postponed • OA+D o In the absence of the House of Broadcasting event, Rich Feely presented a recommendation that the Foundation pursue support for the upcoming OA+D exhibit and related events, as supported by the Board in previous discussions o Joan Clark shared about a few of the possible fundraising options that A+D Board members had presented Page 3 of 5 5. Expectation of Board Member Attendance at City Council Meetings • Barbara Meyerson encouraged Board members to keep an eye on the City Council meeting agendas and attend as is appropriate 6. Rescheduling Executive Subcommittee Meetings • To include Museum Marketing Coordinator Becca Vega in Executive Subcommittee meetings, the Executive Subcommittee meetings will be rescheduled to the first Wednesday of each month at 2 p.m. 7. Recognition • Tom Escobedo o Barbara Meyerson shared about Tom Escobedo’s long history of service with the Chandler Museum Foundation and before. She presented him with a certificate in recognition of years of service. • Brenda Abney o Brenda Abney was not in attendance. A certificate will be presented to her at a later date. 8. Museum Manager's Report • Keen Independent Research, who will be making the Museum’s next strategic plan, has signed the contract and will begin working in May. The project is expected to take 10 month. Thirty thousand dollars of the contract was funded by the City of Chandler and fifteen thousand dollars was funded by the Chandler Museum Foundation. • OA+D Exhibition is set to open September 2025 and run through February 2026. o The OA+D-run symposium is planned for November 15, 2026. o There are opportunities to have receptions before November 1st or after November 15th through the end of the show. • Update on the Eddie Basha, Jr. Exhibition o Sarah Biggerstaff, Museum Storytelling Coordinator, has been working closely with the Basha family, the Basha Collection Curator, and many other friends and associates of Eddie Basha, Jr. Sarah has conducted numerous oral histories, created an initial layout of sections of the exhibit and what they will include, identified potential objects for the exhibition from the family and other collections, and gave a longer presentation to the Executive Subcommittee. o Martin Sepulveda has volunteered to help reach out to additional people who can contribute to the exhibition. • Museum Marketing Workgroup will be meeting on Friday, April 25th at 2 p.m. Page 4 of 5 Briefing None. Next Museum Foundation Executive Subcommittee Meeting will be May 7, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Chandler Museum. 11. Next Museum Foundation Governance Subcommittee Meeting will be May 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Chandler Museum. 12. Next Museum Foundation Board Meeting will be May 19, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Chandler Museum. 13.
