Meeting Minutes Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting May 14, 2025 | 6:00 p.m. Chandler City Council Chambers 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Agarwal at 6:01 p.m. Roll Call Commission Attendance Staff Attendance Vice Chair Kriti Agarwal Niki Tapia, DEI Officer Commissioner Betty Ramirez CC Cantabrana, Management Assistant Commissioner Garry Ong Commander Dan Shellum, Chandler Police Commissioner Kent Lane Commissioner Joacim Mattison Commissioner Omar Rodriguez Commissioner Jevan Bremby Commissioner Tony Pham Commissioners Absent Commissioner Shaunna Risinger Commissioner Pamela Morris Chair Erica Maxwell Scheduled and Unscheduled Public Appearances None Consent Agenda Motion and Vote Commissioner Ramirez moved to approve the April 9, 2025, Human Relations Commission meeting minutes; Seconded by Commissioner Lane. Motions carried unanimously (8-0). Page 2 of 2 Discussion Introductions The Human Relations Commission is pleased to welcome new members, Commissioners Bremby, Mattison, and Risinger, who was excused absent. Each HRC member took a moment to introduce themselves, sharing how long they have lived in Chandler and providing a brief overview of their background. FY 24/25 Event Data Postponed to a future meeting due to Chair Maxwell’s absence at this meeting. June Board Retreat Agenda There was a discussion regarding the agenda for the upcoming June 11 board retreat, which will include a presentation focused on sharing goals and objectives. The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division will also bring in a consultant to help facilitate the discussion. Instant Language Assistant (ILA) Demonstration A demonstration of the Instant Language Assistant (ILA) was provided during the meeting. ILA is a real-time translation device implemented at major public-facing city service counters to enhance language accessibility for residents. DEI Division Updates DEI shared updates on the upcoming Culture Music in the Park event celebrating Juneteenth and Freedom Week, scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. at Dr. A.J. Chandler Park West. The community is invited to enjoy live music by Vaughn Willis & Ear Candy, along with food from Kravins Soul Food & Barbeque, snacks like OMG Shaved Ice, interactive art experiences, nonprofit and city booths, and a photo booth—all free to attend. Chandler Police Department Updates The Chandler Police Department shared updates indicating that violent crime is down in Chandler and reaffirmed that the city continues to be a safe community. Member Comments/Announcements Calendar The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 6 p.m., in the Chandler City Council Chambers, 88 E.
