Meeting Minutes Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting August 20, 2025 | 6:00 p.m. City Council Chambers Conference Room 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ 85225 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Maxwell at 4:06 p.m. Roll Call Commission Attendance Staff Attendance Chair Kriti Agarwal Tadd Wille, Assistant City Manager Vice Chair Betty Ramirez Niki Tapia, DEI Officer Commissioner Erica Maxwell Commander Dan Shellum, Chandler Police Commissioner Garry Ong CC Cantabrana, Management Assistant Commissioner Joacim Mattison Commissioner Jevan Bremby Commissioner Tony Pham Commissioner Shauna Risinger Commissioner Omar Rodriguez Commissioners Absent Commissioner Kent Lane Commissioner Pamela Morris Guests Taylor Ducklow, Facilitator Scheduled and Unscheduled Public Appearances None Consent Agenda Motion and Vote Chair Agarwal made a motion to approve the meeting minutes of June 11, 2025 and May 14, 2025. Commissioner Risinger seconded the motion. All in favor of approving the meeting minutes. (9-0) Page 2 of 2 Action Agenda None Discussion Taylor Ducklow Retreat Follow-Up and Conclusion Taylor Ducklow concluded their facilitated presentation to support the HRC Strategic Plan, focusing on how to work collaboratively, continuing best practices for serving the community, and building the vision of the Commission. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Division Updates Niki Tapia shared about upcoming Chandler-produced events, including Chandler Contigo, Diwali, Level Up Leadership Conferences, and more. CC Cantabrana will send calendar invitations to the commissioner’s emails and include a post-event report. Tapia also suggested that, given the numerous changes and events occurring, it may be fitting for the Commission to meet monthly rather than bi-monthly. The Commission shared that this would be beneficial, and they plan to meet next in September. Chandler Police Department Updates Commander Shellum shared that immigration enforcement is not handled by the Chandler Police, but rather by federal agencies. Chandler Police maintains its commitment to public safety and its law enforcement partners. Member Comments/Announcements Calendar The next regular meeting will be held in September upon review of the Commissioners' calendars. Following, the next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at 6 p.m., at the ASU Chandler Innovation Center located at 249 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ 85225.
