MINUTES OF THE CHANDLER ARTS COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, October 21, 2025 5:00 PM Commissioners Present: Darrell Dick, David Wilkinson, Mahfam Moeeni- Alarcon, Julie Ray, Shachi Kale Commissioners Absent: Martin Galindo, Rosanna Lantigua Staff Present: Peter Bugg, Hanley Ange CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:04 PM by Julie Ray UNSCHEDULED /SCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES / CALL TO PUBLIC Student Hannah Luo attended as part of a class assignment APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Darrell made the motion to approve the minutes from September 16, 2025. Mahfam seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. ACTION AGENDA a. Select finalists for Forensic Services Building a. Earlier this week, Shachi and David met with a subcommittee to narrow down the submissions to 5 finalists. Shachi and David were provided additional information on where the artwork will reside at the new forensics building and this informed whether the artwork should be 2D or 3D and what would compliment the space best. The 5 artists that the commissioners and forensics team chose are Heidi Dauphin, Daniel Hornung, Miguel Angel Godoy and Daniel Nez as a team, Joe Ray, and Jeff Zischke. Julie asked how many artists will be selected and Peter responded that two artists will be selected from these 5. Shachi motioned to approve the artists as the 5 finalists. David seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. b. Approve RFQ for Hartford Neighborhood Mural a. Tabled until next meeting. c. Approve Artwork for City Collection a. Peter explained that although these proposed donations are quality works, they aren’t Chandler-specific and we have limited storage to store these. Peter recommended the commission passes on this artwork. Mahfam motioned to pass on accepting these photographs into the collection. Darrell seconded the motion. Motion passed unanimously. BRIEFING ITEMS a. Ongoing public art projects I. Last month, Eli Richard was selected for the Traffic Management Center project. The traffic team agreed but would like the design to be altered to say “Chandler TMC” instead of “CTMC.” David asked about the lighting on the site and Peter said he would follow up with the traffic team about this. II. Hanley shared that the traffic control box kickoff meeting went well yesterday. 6 out of the 8 artists were able to attend and meet the students in the ASU cohort they will be working with. III. Hanley shared about the success of “So Fun!” Day b. Maintenance Projects I. No current maintenance projects MEMBERS COMMENTS / ANNOUNCEMENTS Shachi has a show coming up at the Rocket Gallery that will be opening in December. Julie shared that she’s working with a local artist to put on an event on Saturday Nov. 8 called “Sustainable Greetings” where community members can meet up and recycle old greeting cards into new cards. Peter and Hanley attended the public art administrators conference two Fridays ago and got to learn about public art around Phoenix and what other cities are doing with their public art collections and upcoming projects.
