Vice Chair Ramirez seconded the motion. All in favor of approving the meeting minutes. (9-0) Action Agenda Commissioner Morris made a motion to approve the 2026 Human Relations Commission meeting dates, seconded by Vice Chair Ramirez. All in favor of approving the updated 2026meeting dates. (9-0) Page 2 of 2 Discussion Crafting Your HRC Elevator Pitch for Inclusion & Belonging Facilitated by Sandra Bassett Sandra Bassett, Development Communications Manager with the Chandler Center for the Arts, joined the meeting to demonstrate how to craft an effective elevator pitch for the Human Relations Commission (HRC). Bassett advised that messages should be clear, concise, and engaging. Additional tips included focusing on the audience’s interests, highlighting the HRC’s mission and impact, using relatable examples or stories, maintaining a confident and approachable tone, and ending with a call-to-action or invitation to learn more. These strategies are designed to help members share information about the HRC comfortably and effectively when interacting with the public. Connection & Impact Division Updates The Connection & Impact Division shared updates on upcoming events and programs. The Division will host the Diwali Festival of Lights on Saturday, October 22, and is preparing for the Multicultural Festival in January. Applications are now open for the MLK Jr. Awards, which recognize individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to the community. The Division is also accepting applications for the LEAD Chandler Emerging Leaders Cohort, a program designed to support and develop young professionals by providing leadership training, mentorship, and opportunities to engage in community projects. Chandler Police Department Updates Chandler Police provided an update with Commander Shellum reporting on the recent No Kings Rally in Downtown Chandler. The event saw a large turnout, with approximately 1,500 attendees, including vehicles passing by to show support. Commander Shellum noted that there were no arrests and no reports of criminal activity during the rally. Member Comments/Announcements Calendar The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 12, at 6 p.m., at the ASU Chandler Innovation Center located at 249 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ 85225. Adjourn Vice Chair Ramirez made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Risinger seconded the motion.
