Meeting Minutes Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Regular Meeting November 4, 2025 | 5 p.m. Chandler Community Center, Room 101 125 E. Commonwealth Ave., Chandler, AZ Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Levinson at 5:04 p.m. Roll Call Commission Attendance Chair Shane Levinson Vice Chair Michael Simon Commissioner Mary Baker Commissioner Robert Dalpe Commissioner Jacob Dort Commissioner Carol Farabee (remote) Commissioner Shane Levinson Commissioner LaShay Marks Staff Attendance Corey Povar, Staff Liaison Tawn Kao, Deputy City Attorney Luke Cerré, Recording Secretary Absent None Consent Agenda 1. October Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Meeting Minutes Move Military and Veterans Affairs Commission approve the meeting minutes of the September 9, 2025 regular meeting. Comm. Dalpe motioned to approve the consent agenda; seconded by Comm. Baker. Motion carried 7-0. Action Agenda Page 2 of 3 2. Ship Naming Motion to request approval from City Council to petition the Secretary of the Navy to name a ship after Chandler. There was discussion regarding requesting that a US Navy ship be named after Chandler, continuing from the October meeting. Mr. Povar advised that staff were requesting formal approval from the Commission, and would then request approval from City Council. Comm. Dort motioned to approve moving forward; seconded by Vice Chair Simon. Motion carried 7-0. Discussion 3. Objectives Discussion regarding the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission's objectives: Advise, Educate, Collaborate & Coordinate, Acknowledge & Honor No updates. 4. Military Appreciation Breakfast Discussion and possible action regarding supporting the Senior Center's annual Military Appreciation Breakfast, to be held Friday, November 7, 2025. Mr. Povar advised that all preparation was complete for the event, and that catering had been secured. All Commissioners advised that they were planning to attend. Replacement nametags were requested for Chair Levinson, Vice Chair Simon, and Comm. Dalpe. 5. Veterans Day Discussion and possible action regarding the Veterans Day event, to be held Sunday, November 9, 2025 at 5:30 p.m. Mr. Povar advised that the first names had been engraved at the Field of Honor memorial, and that a section of chairs would be set aside for the inductees at the event. He advised that the Wishing Crane Project from ACP High School would attend again this year, providing origami cranes and paper airplanes with positive messages for veterans. Vice Chair Simon advised that Valley of the Sun was confirmed again this year and would provide water and light refreshments. 6. Military Bound Discussion and possible action regarding dates and venue for the 2026 Military Bound event Page 3 of 3 Mr. Povar advised that a new venue had been secured at Hamilton High School, for the morning of Saturday, May 2, 2026. Briefing 7. Treasury Report – Luke Cerré, Commission Secretary Mr. Cerré advised that there were no treasury updates, other than more flexibility as the Center for the Arts venue fee for Military Bound would no longer be necessary. Mr. Povar advised that discussion was underway regarding securing additional budget for the commission's events, as adding a 5k would require additional expenditure authorization. Member Comments/Announcements 8. Announcements regarding any external events Comm. Dalpe advised that there were many veterans events occurring in the next few weeks, including Pearl Harbor Day at the state capitol. Calendar 9. The next regular meeting will be held on December 9, 2025 in the Chandler City Council Chambers, 88 E. Chicago Street. 10.
