Yes Contact Information Becky Hinds grants@icanaz.org (480) 874-7597 Application Priority Areas Education Title of the Project Helping Youth Thrive Through Positive Youth Development Amount Intended to Request $100,000 Purpose of the Grant ICAN respectfully requests $100,000 from the Gila River Indian Community to expand our Positive Youth Development Program. This investment will not only increase our capacity to serve more youth at our five current program sites but also fund critical initiatives focused on enhancing academic impact, with a goal of boosting math and grade-level reading proficiency scores through intentional collaborations with academic partners with expertise in subjects such as literacy, math, and STEAM. Recognizing the afterschool space as a key opportunity to bridge academic gaps, we welcome your support to secure long-term success for the youth we serve. Project Summary ICANs holistic out-of-school time program model ensures that youth thrive academically, socially, and creatively through four key interconnected pillars: Academic Support, Positive Youth Development, Enrichment and Future Exploration, and Community and Family Support. We provide these programs free of charge in order for parents and caregivers to maintain employment and advance their Economic Opportunities. We specifically work with school-aged children from underserved communities prioritizing those receiving Free Reduced-Price School Lunches. ICAN provides the PYD program to students in the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) and Mesa Public Schools (MPS). The program runs from school dismissal on Monday through Friday during the school year until 6 p.m. and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. During intersession school breaks (i.e., Fall Break, Summer Break). Impact on the City of Chandler During the initial year of the grant period, ICAN's programming will be provided to approximately 550 K - 12 Chandler youth. Programs will be offered at ICAN’s three sites in Chandler which includes ICAN Galveston Elementary, ICAN Hartford Elementary, and ICAN Main which services Bologna Elementary, Frye Elementary, San Marcos Elementary, Willis Junior High, Andersen Junior High, Chandler High School, and Hamilton High School. ICAN families will be secondary beneficiaries of our PYD Program, which supports the family system by providing crucial economic-related social support. ICAN is proud to partner with the city in building a stronger community today while providing the economic support families need to thrive tomorrow.
