PLH26-0001 Dobson Residence 
Narrative 
This application is being submitted to request historic designation for the property located 
at 2751 South Nebraska Street. The Dobson family property is historically significant for 
its long association with the Dobson family, whose roots in Chandler date to the late 1800s, 
when they settled in the area and established successful farming and ranching operations. 
Over multiple generations, the Dobson family has remained influential in agriculture, land 
use, and civic life within the City of Chandler. 
The property is further significant due to its association with Dr. A.J Chandler, founder of 
the City of Chandler, who previously owned the land. The home was constructed in 1948 by 
Carl Ekholm, who served as vice president of the Chandler Improvement Company under 
Dr. A.J Chandler. The home has experienced minimal alteration; while a rear patio was 
enclosed, the exterior form, materials, and overall appearance of the residence remain 
original. The property retains integrity of setting, association, and scale, and continues to 
convey its historic rural character, making it a surviving example of Chandler’s early 
development history. 
Although the property is eligible to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 
Dobson family is not seeking national designation at this time.
