Meeting Minutes Human Relations Commission Regular Meeting April 22, 2026 | 6:00 p.m. City Council Chambers Conference Room 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ 85225 Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Ramirez at 6:01 p.m. Roll Call Commission Attendance Staff Attendance Chair Kriti Agarwal Niki Tapia, Cultural Development Ast. Vice Chair Ramirez seconded the motion. All in favor of approving the meeting minutes. (9-0). Commissioner Risinger made a motion to cancel the scheduled meeting on June 24, 2026 as a summer recess. Vice Chair Ramirez seconded the motion. All in favor of approving the motion. (9-0) Page 2 of 3 Action Agenda Discussion Connection & Impact Updates Niki Tapia shared that this would be Commissioner Pham’s final meeting on the Human Relations Commission and expressed appreciation for his time, service, and contributions to the Commission. It was also noted that an individual from the Indigenous community has applied and expressed interest in serving on the HRC. Adrianna Erickson provided updates on upcoming events, including the Asian American Community Connection and the Women's Empowerment Luncheon event. Dara Gibson also shared information about the upcoming Culture Music in the Park event, which will celebrate Juneteenth. Chandler Police Department Updates Commander Shellum shared that there has been no significant uptick in crime in Chandler. He also highlighted a recent safety training hosted for faith leaders, which focused on equipping religious organizations with practical tools and strategies to enhance safety and preparedness. He emphasized the importance of these efforts in helping faith communities feel supported, prepared, and connected to local law enforcement, ultimately strengthening overall community safety. HRC Goal Setting Part 2 with Taylor Ducklow Taylor Ducklow led an interactive session that provided HRC members with the opportunity to share their knowledge and experiences related to community building, outreach, and administration. The session emphasized the importance of capturing these insights as the Commission continues to grow and evolve, ensuring that its work remains responsive, collaborative, and community-informed. Ducklow also offered feedback on potential next steps for the HRC, including exploring updates to the bylaws to incorporate a youth member to serve as a youth voice on the Commission, developing an internship opportunity, and establishing subcommittees to support more focused and effective work moving forward.
