Program Information Summaries 
 
Conscious Discipline Institute 
From June 2 to June 6, the Head Start Birth to Five Program held a Conscious 
Discipline Institute at the Desert Willow Conference Center, attended by over 150 
teachers, instructional assistants, and staff. Conscious Discipline is an approach aimed 
at promoting self-regulation in both adults and children. Participants learned various 
strategies and techniques to create classroom environments that help children 
understand their emotions, integrate into the classroom community, and manage 
frustration constructively. 
 
Parent Training 
On May 29, the Head Start Birth to Five Program hosted the fourth and final session of 
the parenting curriculum "Your Journey Together" at Alhambra Preschool Academy, 
engaging 22 families. The sessions focused on helping families build resilience in 
themselves and their children, assisting their children in regulating their behavior, and 
understanding what is socially and emotionally appropriate for young children. 
 
Financial Literacy 
On June 16, the Head Start Birth to Five Program's M.A.N.C.A.V.E. hosted an interactive 
workshop at the Booker T. Washington Child Development Center for 20 fathers and their 
children on setting goals, building a budget, and saving for the future. Chase Bank 
facilitated the event. 
 
Governor Appointment 
On June 23, Governor Hobbs reappointed a staff member from Head Start Birth to Five 
as the statewide representative for Arizona's Interagency Coordination Council. This 
council focuses on collaboration with the Arizona Early Intervention Program to support 
children with developmental delays and their families through advocacy and the 
promotion of early intervention services. 
 
Groundbreaking Ceremony 
On June 25, the Booker T. Washington (BTW) Child Development Center broke ground 
for its new administrative building on campus. This project, which took two years to 
finalize, was supported by the Head Start Birth to Five Program in partnership with BTW. 
The new facility will accommodate the BTW administrative team and offer space for 
community use. The expected completion date is within the next year.
