Program Information Summaries 
 
Summer Health Screenings  
In July, twelve summer health events were held throughout the Head Start Birth to Five 
Program sites. With the support of health partners, including Arizona College of Nursing, 
the Lead State Team, Mountain Park, Public Health 1-2, the Wesley Mobile Unit, and 
Cavity Free AZ, 885 students preparing to start Head Start in August underwent 
screenings for height, weight, vision, hearing, and blood pressure. Dental screenings 
were also provided on-site, where children received fluoride varnish treatments, oral 
health check-ups, and education on oral hygiene. Additionally, parents were given 
educational resources on lead prevention, diapering, and naloxone. Each child received 
a floor puzzle as a token of participation. 
 
Parent Orientation 
In July, the Head Start Birth to Five Program held over 40 parent orientations for more 
than 1,200 parents. The goal of these sessions was to familiarize families with Head Start 
and clarify the parent role in the program. The presentations covered an overview of Head 
Start, the importance of consistent attendance, and ways families can be involved in their 
child’s education. The Birth to Five Program will review attendance data to determine if 
children whose parents attended the orientation have higher attendance rates. 
 
 
Phoenix Children’s Museum 
On July 24, seven families enrolled in the Head Start Birth to Five program participated 
in a field trip to the Phoenix Children’s Museum. The families received free admission for 
their families and engaged in an enjoyable day of fun and exploration. The home-based 
program offers two engaging socialization events each month, fostering community and 
connection among the families.
