Program Information Summaries 
 
Urban Strategies Early Head Start Family Engagement Event 
On April 11, Head Start Birth to Five staff participated in the Urban Strategies Early 
Head Start Family Engagement Event at Hamilton Elementary School in the Murphy 
Elementary School District. During the event, staff promoted the Head Start Birth to Five 
Program to more than 20 families and helped two families complete preschool pre-
registration. 
 
National Head Start Association 2024 Annual Conference 
From April 15 to 18, three members of the Head Start Birth to Five team and two Head 
Start parents attended the annual conference in Portland, Oregon. This conference 
serves as a platform for the Head Start community to unite, share knowledge, network, 
and celebrate achievements. The attendees gained valuable insights into new trends 
and updates related to Head Start, which they plan to bring back and share with the rest 
of the team. 
 
Recruitment Events 
On April 13, Head Start Birth to Five staff participated in the Maryvale Community 
Center event hosted by Council District 5. Staff promoted the Head Start Birth to Five 
Program to more than 200 attendees. In addition, the Head Start Birth to Five Program 
has partnered again with the Public Works Department to advertise the program. Ten 
refuse trucks will display banners with the Head Start Birth to Five contact information 
this year.  
 
Deer Valley Head Start Family Engagement Picnic 
On April 18, Deer Valley Head Start held its annual family picnic at Sunrise Elementary 
School. Over 550 attendees ate a chicken dinner, played games, and won prizes. Head 
Start Birth to Five staff were on hand to facilitate educational games, give out food 
tickets, and engage with the families. Every child received a book from the Phoenix 
Public Library.
