Program Information Summaries 
 
Central City South Community Connection 
On March 7, Head Start Birth to Five staff facilitated a table at the Central City South 
Community Connection Fair. The event was held at Matthew Henson Park and hosted 
by the City of Phoenix Housing Department. The focus of the community fair was to 
acquaint the Central City South community and local agencies who provide social 
services and healthcare programs. The Head Start table included informational material 
from all divisions within the Human Services Department. Approximately 150 residents 
participated in the event, which included music, arts and crafts, and local entertainment.  
 
Child Care Partnership Quarterly Parent Meeting 
On March 10, Head Start Birth to Five staff facilitated the Child Care Partnership 
quarterly meeting held at Kidz Kampus. Caseworkers shared community events, school 
readiness information, and handwashing techniques with the 20 parents in attendance.  
The guest speaker was Detective Hugo Lopez from the Phoenix Police Department’s 
Community Relations Bureau. He shared the free programs the Police Department 
offers and ways parents can get involved in their community.   
 
Virtual Field Trip 
The Early Head Start field trip to the Phoenix Zoo, scheduled for March 19, was 
canceled due to COVID-19. All 60 families scheduled to attend were provided a link to a 
virtual site to the Phoenix Zoo Digital Safari. Families were able to show their children 
the zoo through the engaging and fun videos offered on the link. Caseworkers are 
sharing ideas among themselves for using the site with families during their weekly 
remote contact.   
 
Teleworking 
Head Start staff who are teleworking remain in contact with their colleagues through 
email, phone, and Skype. The collaboration and ideas of how to stay engaged with 
families have been incredible. Staff thinking is outside of the box and is innovative, 
providing parents information to help their children continue learning appropriate 
concepts in all development areas during their time at home. Delegate agency teachers 
are providing parents with at-home activities from Teaching Strategies Gold, which is 
the ongoing assessment tool used in the classroom. Some teachers delivered “We Miss 
You” packages to the children.
