From: Midtown Neighborhood Association To: City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department Re: Planned Unit Development Amendment Request Z-27-A-11 Date: 10/25/2020 Since 1971 the Alwun House has fostered community involvement, arts education, and provided leadership in the arts community in the heart of Phoenix. As a community organization, the Alwun House has provided a sense of place and belonging to multiple generations of Phoenix artists through various programming initiatives. As the needs of a community change and evolve-so must the organizations which serve these communities. The Alwun House is currently requesting an amendment to a Planned Unit Development. The requested amendment would allow the Alwun House to host food trucks as well as harvest and sell food items at their current location. The Midtown Neighborhood Association (MNA) formally announces their support for the amendment proposed to the City of Phoenix Planning and Development Department. Approval of this amendment will allow the Alwun House to increase community engagement, broaden their outreach and impact, as well as meeting the basic food needs of urban residents who lack access to transportation to food sources. Arts are an invaluable asset to all communities. The Alwun House has pioneered arts engagement in urban, downtown Phoenix and has made a lasting impact on the community which it serves. Approval of this requested amendment will allow the Alwun House to continue these efforts at a time when they are needed most by area residents and the Phoenix arts community. This is Item 7 on the November 5 Agenda. For decades, Alwun House has had an incredibly positive impact on the Downtown Phoenix Arts Community, and our City as a whole. They helped revitalize a previously neglected neighborhood, and they have always supported our community. Through their actions and behavior, they have earned the right to expand what they offer to their patrons. Thanks Bill Morlan bmorlan@electricsupply.com
