Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003 BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 10:00 AM or immediately following the Formal Meeting on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, in the Sullivan & Supervisors’ Conference Rooms, 301 W. Jefferson, 10th Floor, Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Bill Gates, Chairman, District 3; Clint Hickman, Vice Chairman, District 4; Jack Sellers, District 1; Steve Chucri, District 2; Steve Gallardo, District 5. Also present: Fran McCarroll, Clerk of the Board; Maria Ceaglske, Minutes Coordinator; Joy Rich, County Manager; and Andrea Cummings, Legal Counsel. 1. EXECUTIVE SESSION Vote to convene in Executive Session to consider the items on the Special Executive Agenda dated October 23, 2019, for Board of Supervisors and relevant Special Districts pursuant to the statutory authority listed for each item. Motion to approve by Supervisor Hickman, seconded by Supervisor Chucri Ayes: Sellers, Chucri, Gates, Hickman, Gallardo MEETING RECESSED Chairman Gates recessed the Board of Supervisors to convene in Executive Session. MEETING RECONVENED After discussion on the Executive items, Chairman Gates reconvened the meeting in Open Session. Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, October 23, 2019 Page 2 of 2 OPEN SESSION 2. POSSIBLE ACTION RELATED TO COUNTY ASSESSOR Take action as directed in Executive Session on October 23, 2019, related to the County Assessor. (C-06-20-208-7-00) Supervisor Hickman made the following motion: Pursuant to ARS 11-664, I move that we notice and schedule a public meeting on Monday, October 28, 2019, to consider placing Assessor Paul Petersen on unpaid suspension for neglect of duty. Due to Mr. Petersen’s detention, he is not physically present in the Office, with severely restricted telephonic communication and access to email. Furthermore, the multitude of documents not related to his public duties, but to his private law practice on Mr. Petersen’s Maricopa County computer, demonstrates additional neglect of duty. Thereby, he is neglecting his duties and obligations as Maricopa County Assessor. Also, direct the Clerk to send notice of the meeting as determined by the Chairman. Seconded by Supervisor Sellers.
