REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution to accept and disburse grant funds from Tempe Diablos Charities for City 
of Tempe Veteran Services (Community Health and Human Services). (Resolution No. R2024.02)
FISCAL IMPACT:  The total amount of the grant award for City of Tempe Veteran Services 
(Community Health and Human Services) is $10,000. Sufficient budget appropriation for expenditure of 
this award was authorized in the Restricted Revenue and Donations Fund (Fund 44) as part of the fiscal 
year 2023-2024 adopted budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2024.02; approve the grant award.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  Each year, Tempe Diablos Charities solicits grant proposals that 
support at-risk youth and families, community outreach/quality of life, improving the lives of physically 
and mentally challenged, and education with an emphasis on early childhood development and life-
skills. In 2023, City of Tempe Veteran Services (Community Health and Human Services) received 
$10,000 in Tempe Diablos Charities grant funding to plan, host, and execute the City of Tempe Veteran 
Services Homelessness Task Force. 
Awarded funds will be used to assist veterans and veteran family members in Tempe that are currently 
unsheltered, are about to be unsheltered, or are at risk of being unsheltered. Further, funding will be 
utilized as part of the City of Tempe’s greater effort to provide services to the unsheltered through the 
City’s comprehensive system of support that includes street outreach, case management, connection to 
social services, crisis response, mental health resources, emergency and transitional shelter, and 
housing.
