PROCLAMATION 56th ANNUAL PROFESSIONAL MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk is the oldest among public servants, and WHEREAS, the Professional Municipal Clerks Week was initiated in 1969 by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) and endorsed by all its members throughout the United States, Canada, and 15 other countries; and WHEREAS, in 1984, President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation that officially declared Professional Municipal Clerks Week the first full week of May. In 1994 and 1996, President Bill Clinton also signed proclamations confirming Municipal Clerks Week; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and impartiality, and to render equal service to all while maintaining public trust through transparency and accountability; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks serve as the information center on the functions of local government and the community; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks work behind the scenes to oversee key functions like conducting municipal elections, providing legislative support, managing vital documents, management of city meetings, and ensuring compliance with state and local laws and regulations; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks Week provides an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the invaluable work of municipal clerks, acknowledge their vital contributions to public service, and highlight the important role they play in the day-to-day operations of our cities; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Alexis A. Hermosillo, Mayor of the City of El Mirage, do recognize the week of May 4 through 10, 2025, as Professional Municipal Clerks Week, and further extend appreciation to our City of El Mirage Clerk’s Office for the vital services they perform and their exemplary dedication to our community.
