BOARD OF SUPERVISORS The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the Supervisors’ Conference Room, 301 W Jefferson, 10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present: Jack Sellers, Chairman, District 1; Thomas Galvin, Vice Chairman, District 2 (remote); Bill Gates, Supervisor, District 3; Clint Hickman, Supervisor, District 4 (remote); Steve Gallardo, Supervisor, District 5 (remote). Also present: Juanita Garza, Clerk; Kelly Gardiner, Minutes Coordinator; Jen Pokorski, County Manager; Andrea Cummings, Legal Counsel. ACTION 1. APPOINTMENT FOR LEGISLATIVE STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 8 Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1202, receive the names of the three qualified electors as candidates to fill the vacancy for the Legislative District 8 State Representative seat as submitted by the Legislative District 8 Precinct Committeemen and appoint one of the candidates from the list to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of State Representative Jevin D. Hodge. The three candidate names submitted by the District are: Deborah Nardozzi Janeen Connolly Kendra Flory (C-06-24-659-X-00) Chairman Sellers stated this meeting was scheduled to consider three candidates whose names were submitted by the Legislative District 8 Precinct Committeemen for the Board’s consideration to fill the LD8 State Representative seat. He asked for a motion. Vice Chairman Galvin thanked his colleagues. He said he had the honor of meeting all three applicants in person. Vice Chairman Galvin asked each applicant to complete a questionnaire that addressed issues important to the State of Arizona: state budget, the Special Meeting Minutes Wednesday, April 03, 2024 Page 2 of 2 rise of anti-semitism, zoning reform, and ethics (conducting themselves in an ethical manner). He stated Deborah Nardozzi stood out for her answers, particularly in response to anti-semitism and for her attention to detail. He thanked all three applicants for taking the time to complete the questionnaire, for the personal interviews, and for offering to stand up and serve the State of Arizona. Supervisor Gallardo thanked Chairman Sellers for bringing this appointment process forward in such an expeditious manner. He thanked the three candidates for stepping forward. Motion to approve the appointment of Deborah Nardozzi to fill the Legislative District 8 State Representative seat by Vice Chairman Thomas Galvin, seconded by Supervisor Steve Gallardo Supervisor Gates echoed his colleagues’ comments and said he was grateful for the candidates who were willing to serve. Supervisor Hickman expressed his appreciation and echoed his colleagues’ comments. Chairman Sellers said he was impressed with the candidate choices and appreciated their willingness to serve.
