Fair Housing Month 
 
April 2026 
 
WHEREAS, the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as amended by the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 
1988, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, leasing, and financing of housing, and in the 
provision of housing-related services, based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status, 
or national origin; and 
 
WHEREAS, federal law and policy, along with state and local efforts, support fair housing 
practices and promote equal access to housing opportunities for all individuals, including 
protections that extend to sexual orientation and gender identity; and 
 
WHEREAS, fair housing is essential to building strong, inclusive, and thriving communities, 
and ensures that all residents have the opportunity to live in safe, decent, and affordable housing 
free from discrimination; and 
 
WHEREAS, April is recognized nationwide as Fair Housing Month, commemorating the 
passage of the Fair Housing Act and reaffirming our commitment to advancing equity and 
opportunity in housing. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Juan F. Rodriguez, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of 
the City of Tolleson, Arizona, do hereby proclaim the month of April 2026 as Fair Housing Month 
in the City of Tolleson, and encourage all residents to support fair housing practices and work
