Maricopa County Proclamation Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life Month January 2024 Whereas, the Speak Up, Stand Up, Save a Life movement presents an ideal opportunity to help bridge the gap between young people, local communities, government entities, and law enforcement in a positive way; and Whereas, our local schools are facing unnecessary tragedies where warning signs are visible on social media or observed in person, but are not being reported as serious threats or cries for help; and Whereas, our youth need to be empowered to report concerning social media posts or comments to school representatives or law enforcement, and adults can receive training to help spread the message it is okay to care enough to speak up, stand up and save a life; and Whereas, students from 169 Arizona schools have learned the message and created student- led impact projects in their schools and communities that have impacted over 500,000 youth. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the month of January, 2024 as SPEAK UP, STAND UP, SAVE A LIFE MONTH; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Maricopa County schools, students, parents, educators, police departments, and community organizations are encouraged to engage in a variety of awareness and prevention activities designed to make our communities safer for all children and adolescents. DATED this 10th Day of January, 2024. ___________________________________ Jack Sellers, Chairman, District 1 ___________________________________ Thomas Galvin, Supervisor, District 2 ___________________________________ Bill Gates, Supervisor, District 3 ___________________________________ Clint Hickman, Supervisor, District 4 ___________________________________ Steve Gallardo, Supervisor, District 5 ATTEST: _____________________________ Juanita Garza, Clerk of the Board
