8. DEPUTY CONSTABLE RESERVE PROGRAM Approve the establishment of a Deputy Constable Reserve Program. With Board of Supervisors' approval, the Maricopa County Constables would establish the position of Reserve Deputy Constable. This non-compensated volunteer deputy would allow for the use of AZPOST-certified reserve deputies. Reserve deputies would serve at no cost to Maricopa County and will enhance the abilities of the Constables to perform service of process at irregular hours or weekends. A volunteer, non-paid Reserve Deputy Constable will assist in handling work loads when we have large increases in work due primarily to landlord-tenant filings that spike during certain parts of the month. These court filings result in a large increase in the number of Writs of Restitution (eviction orders) normally received and served. The Constables have certain times during the month when the workload increases significantly due to the timing of court cases for delinquent payment of rent. Having the ability to utilize the services of another Deputy to assist with the case load during these times would be very beneficial to the Constables. This would be especially helpful in the event a Constable or Deputy Constable were to be off work due to illness, vacation or family emergencies as often happens. In those cases wherein there is a spike in workload, it would help with better customer service by having extra help to speed the delivery of process to individuals. (C-25-11-007-M-00)
